Family Update March 17
In our ongoing collaboration with Alberta Health Services (AHS) we would like to inform you that as of 2:30 pm today, March 16, St. Michael’s Long Term Care Centre is on Influenza-Like-Illness outbreak.
We understand the concerns regarding COVID-19 so we felt it important to communicate this with family members immediately. Outbreak status in long term care facilities is common and we are currently one of 14 sites in the City of Edmonton on an ILI (influenza like illness) or GI (gastrointestinal illness) outbreak and this can occur any influenza season. Once we know more, we are committed to send an update.
We are taking heightened prevention measures to help curtail the spread of any illness and will continue to actively monitor residents. We request the ongoing support of families with the change announced yesterday that there are no visiting hours. If there is a significant change in your loved ones’ health, you will be contacted by St. Michael’s staff. Please continue to monitor the website as we will provide updates as the situation changes.
We understand this will be difficult for Residents and families and thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We will be communicating about opportunities to speak with and see your loved one via Facebook messenger, Facetime or Skype. More information to follow. The care and safety of our residents and staff are our top priority. We remain committed to keeping you informed as the situation changes.
