The Adult Day Support Programs are designed to offer clients a variety of therapeutic services and structured social and recreational activities in a group setting. The programs are oriented to Seniors, who are often frail and living in the community. Services are tailored to the clients individual needs and can include rehabilitation therapy as well as to maintain a general level of good health. Clients registered in an Medical rehab Program must attend a full five-to-six hour day on their scheduled day(s). Other services offered are nursing care, recreation, socialization, and respite for the caregiver.
Your Home Care Case Manager will discuss the options and make a referral for a day program as part of your service plan. Your referral information is reviewed by an Alberta Health Services Day Program Intake Case Manager who will send information to the program desired or is closest to your home and appropriate to meet your identified needs. You are then placed on the wait-list for that program. The day program staff will contact you/or your family when space is available for you to come and try the program. Wait times vary depending on the demands for the program you are waiting for.
Transportation is not provided to and from the day programs. Many Clients use public transit services for people with disabilities, if this is available in your community. Day Program staff can guide you on how to make routine bookings with this service. Other options are family driving or arranging for another driving service.
If I would not come to Adult Day Support Program I probably would not be walking. Exercises and other activities have helped me to move better. I feel much better when I attend the program. My doctor and daughter encouraged me to go to Adult Day Support. I am with wonderful people and staff instead of staying home alone. Socializing is very important to me. Also, I met a friend of mine that came over on a ship from Italy 58 years ago in the program I have not seen in a long time. I recommend this very good program – it keeps you moving!
