COVID-19 Precautions at St. Michael’s

On March 15, 2020 the Chief Medical Officer of Health for the Province of Alberta announced only essential visitors will be allowed in seniors’ care centres. At St. Michael’s Long Term Care Centre essential visitors are only families of residents who have been contacted directly by us regarding a significant change in their loved ones’ health. Volunteers who come to assist with the provision of care (meal assistance, etc.) are considered essential members of our care team. Effective immediately there are no visiting hours.

The care and safety of our residents and staff are our top priority. We do not have any cases of COVID-19 and to help reduce the spread of illness, all staff and those with essential services are being screened upon entry. Anyone who presents signs of illness will be sent home. We actively monitor and screen our residents to determine if they are showing any of the COVID-19 symptoms. St. Michael’s staff assumed all responsibility for personal laundry during the pandemic. NO family deliveries of clothes, food items or parcels can be dropped off at this time.

Please visit our website regularly as we will continue to provide updates as they occur. Thank you for your support and help protecting all our residents.

Daily Life

153 Residents live in private or semi-private rooms at our site located in northeast Edmonton.

A variety of activities are designed and organized for residents. They and their families can plan for these activities through the shared monthly recreational calendar. These leisure activities are created to enhance the quality of life while working in partnership with residents and their families during the Resident And Family Council Meetings. Some of the residents favorite leisure activities are when local musicians, bands and dance groups perform. We also stay involved with our community by taking part in local events by using our wheelchair accessible bus and organizing in-house group activities.
